It is considered in the following situations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Frequently recurring infections<\/strong> and <strong>chronic tonsillitis<\/strong> (bad breath, tonsil stones (tonsilloliths), feeling of something stuck in the throat)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Snoring\/sleep apnea<\/strong> and difficulty swallowing due to <strong>tonsillar hypertrophy<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Peritonsillar abscess<\/strong> (abscess formation following tonsillitis)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Suspicion of cancer<\/strong> such as <strong>unilateral irregular growth<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: <strong>Complete removal is not mandatory in every case<\/strong> of tonsillar enlargement and bad odor; in suitable cases, <strong>vaporization (tonsillotomy\/reduction)<\/strong> to reduce size may be preferred.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Post-Operative_Bleeding_Whats_Normal_Whats_Emergency\"><\/span>Post-Operative Bleeding: What&#8217;s Normal, What&#8217;s Emergency?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Bleeding risk is inherent in the nature of the surgery.<\/strong> A significant portion of bleeding seen after tonsillectomy is related to factors that develop <strong>outside the physician&#8217;s control<\/strong>, such as individual vascular structure, natural separation of the healing scab, infection, dehydration, or certain medications used. The surgeon&#8217;s meticulous technique and appropriate operating room conditions <strong>reduce<\/strong> this risk but <strong>cannot completely eliminate it<\/strong>. Therefore, it is very important to comply with recommended medication, fluid intake, and nutrition instructions, and to contact the healthcare team without delay when you notice warning signs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Post-tonsillectomy bleeding is of two types:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Primary bleeding (first 24 hours):<\/strong><br \/>\nOccurs due to failure of blood vessel ends to close or early loss of clot. Requires <strong>emergency<\/strong> evaluation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondary bleeding (Usually days 5\u201310):<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Mild oozing<\/strong> due to falling of healing scab. However, <strong>bright red, continuous<\/strong> bleeding after scab falling is an <strong>emergency<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Situations_that_can_be_considered_normal_during_home_monitoring\"><\/span>Situations that can be considered normal during home monitoring:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Small red specks<\/strong> in saliva<\/li>\n<li><strong>Small amount of dark clot<\/strong> (especially when scab is falling)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Situations_requiring_emergency_consultation\"><\/span>Situations requiring emergency consultation:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bright red, continuous<\/strong> blood from mouth-nose<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vomiting clots<\/strong>, <strong>inability to take fluids<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fever above 38.5 \u00b0C<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Significant weakness\/paleness, <strong>shortness of breath<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If there is <strong>rapidly flowing bleeding in children<\/strong>: Place in <strong>lateral position<\/strong> and preferably go to the emergency room and meanwhile notify your doctor or <strong>call 112<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Golden_Rules_of_Home_Recovery\"><\/span>Golden Rules of Home Recovery<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Plenty of fluids:<\/strong> In small sips, at frequent intervals from the first days.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nutrition:<\/strong> Cold\/lukewarm, <strong>soft foods<\/strong> (yogurt, pudding, puree, ice cream, lukewarm soup).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pain control:<\/strong> <strong>Paracetamol<\/strong> (acetaminophen) is preferred.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cold application:<\/strong> To the neck at short intervals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoiding irritants:<\/strong> Hot, spicy, acidic, hard foods; cigarette smoke; hot shower\/bath not recommended in the first days.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medication warning:<\/strong> <strong>NSAIDs such as aspirin\/ibuprofen increase bleeding risk.<\/strong> <strong>Do not use<\/strong> unless specifically recommended by your physician.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day-by-Day_Recovery_Guide\"><\/span>Day-by-Day Recovery Guide<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Day 0\u20131:<\/strong> Mouth and throat pain prominent; <strong>cold\/lukewarm fluids<\/strong>, paracetamol, brief neck cooling.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 2\u20134:<\/strong> Pain may radiate to ears (referred pain); <strong>frequent sips of water<\/strong>, soft foods; bad breath is normal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 5\u201310:<\/strong> <strong>Scab falling period<\/strong>; streaky blood\/specks in saliva may occur. <strong>Bright red bleeding is an emergency.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Day 10\u201314:<\/strong> Pain and sensitivity decrease; food variety can be increased.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Return to work\/school:<\/strong> Usually within <strong>1\u20132 weeks<\/strong> when pain and eating are tolerated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_is_Partial_Reduction_Tonsillotomy\"><\/span>When is Partial Reduction (Tonsillotomy)?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Vaporization\/reduction (partial reduction)<\/strong> instead of complete removal;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For those with <strong>large tonsils<\/strong> and related <strong>sleep apnea\/snoring<\/strong> complaints,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tonsil stones (bad breath)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Advantages; <strong>less pain<\/strong>, <strong>faster recovery<\/strong>.
