However, when it grows or becomes inflamed, the following complaints may be seen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Postnasal drip or feeling of fullness in the nasopharynx<\/li>\n<li>Nasal congestion<\/li>\n<li>Bad breath<\/li>\n<li>Neck or headache<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes pressure or feeling of blockage in the ear<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These complaints are usually mild; however, if they persist for a long time, an <strong>ENT examination<\/strong> should be performed.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_is_it_diagnosed\"><\/span>How is it diagnosed?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Diagnosis is usually made with <strong>MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)<\/strong> or <strong>CT (computed tomography).<\/strong><br \/>\nOn imaging methods, it appears as a round structure with smooth borders, filled with fluid, located in the center of the nasopharynx region.<br \/>\nIn some cases, it can also be noticed during <strong>endoscopic nasal examination.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_treatment_necessary\"><\/span>Is treatment necessary?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Most Tornwaldt cysts <strong>do not require treatment<\/strong> because they are small.<br \/>\nIf the cyst becomes inflamed, grows, or causes breathing or swallowing problems, <strong>drainage or removal is performed using endoscopic methods.<\/strong><br \/>\nThis surgery is performed through the nose, there is no incision in the mouth, and the patient is usually <strong>discharged on the same day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Should_I_be_worried\"><\/span>Should I be worried?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>No. Tornwaldt cyst <strong>is not cancer<\/strong> and does not turn into a malignant formation.<br \/>\nRecovery is rapid after treatment and it usually <strong>does not recur.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"In_conclusion\"><\/span>In conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Tornwaldt cyst is a <strong>harmless, benign<\/strong> formation seen in the nasopharynx region.<br \/>\nIf it does not cause symptoms, follow-up alone is sufficient; if it causes complaints, it can be easily treated endoscopically.<br \/>\nNot every postnasal drip or nasal congestion is caused by this cyst, but if there is suspicion, it must be evaluated by an <strong>Ear Nose Throat specialist.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Dr. Gediz Murat Serin \u2013 Ear Nose Throat Specialist | Te\u015fvikiye ENT Group What is a Tornwaldt cyst?
