The duration and severity of the problem varies according to the underlying cause.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Most_Common_Causes\"><\/span><strong>Most Common Causes:<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Septum deviation<\/strong>\u00a0(nasal curvature)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Allergic rhinitis<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sinusitis<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Turbinate (nasal tissue) enlargement<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nasal polyp<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Upper respiratory tract infections such as flu and cold<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Hormonal changes (such as pregnancy)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Side effects of some medications<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Environmental factors: dry air, dust, cigarette smoke<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Helps_Nasal_Congestion\"><\/span><strong>What Helps Nasal Congestion?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_%E2%80%93_Nasal_Cleaning_with_Saline_Solution_Physiological_Saline\"><\/span><strong>1 &#8211; Nasal Cleaning with Saline Solution (Physiological Saline)<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If the nasal passages are blocked with mucus, one of the simplest and most effective methods is nasal irrigation with saline solution (physiological saline or homemade saline solution). It helps both to expel mucus and to moisturize the nasal mucosa.
